Olde Town Conyers (Day 2)

On our departure day, we decided to head back to Olde Town Conyers on the way home because we knew they were setting up for filming. Sure enough they had already started setting up, and the door to the Jardin Gris was OPEN. I wasn't able to get a picture but I looked inside and it looked just like this:

So, I am guessing that they actually do film inside.

They were hanging signs everywhere and setting up tables with fake ketchup and mustard bottles.

Remember this picture from Olde Town Conyers (Day 1)?

Well, here it is on day two-

Is it just me or were those lamp poles not there before?

They had all of their spread out and ready to go for season 3 episode 3, so be on the lookout!

Shenanigans in Monroe

After a delicious lunch, my mom and I decided that there were a couple spots that we didn’t get to see on the tour that we could go find ourselves. We knew we definitely wanted to see Elena and Caroline's house, and it turns out the houses are right next to each other.

We also decided that we wanted to see the Monroe Area High School because it had the “Home of the Timberwolves” sign on the football field. After a 30 minute drive, we arrived at the high school, no Timberwolves sign in sight. We drove around the high school multiple times trying to find the sign with no luck. Eventually we figured out the “old” football field was actually in a different location. We drove some more and finally found it, and the pictures ended up being totally worth the effort.

We then drove back and made up for all the effort with some delicious cappuccino ice cream from Scoops, which was super refreshing in the 100 degree Georgia heat.

The Vampire Stalkers Tour

After a night of delicious Mellow Mushroom pizza, and a morning full of Starbucks and Panera scones, my mom and I headed to Covington, GA.

Once my mother and I arrived in Covington, we pulled into the visitors center, where we signed in for our Vampire Stalkers tour. We chose the follow-in-car option, which meant that we could just follow the rest of the group in our own vehicle. Once everyone showed up, we were on our way.

We parked in the town square, and got out to go to our first location. The guides were very informative, and they knew their stuff. They could tell you exactly which episodes were filmed in each location, what happened in the scene, and how they filmed it. We got to see some of the stars that are located on the sidewalk, dedicated to Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev, and Ian Somerhalder.

Later in the tour we got to go visit the homes that they film at:

Gram’s House

Isobel’s House

Bonnie’s House

And of course, the lovely Lockwood Mansion which we got to go inside the gate to see

We also got to see the spot of the season 6 Delena rain kiss. Imagine rain and some twinkly lights.

After the tour, we were starving. The Vampire Stalkers tour guides suggested that we went to Bradley’s BBQ, and to get our sandwich “vamped”, and so we did:

Olde Town Conyers (Day 1)

After going to the Wickery Bridge, we decided it was time to go to Olde Town Conyers, where they film some of The Originals. We had arrived in Conyers on a Sunday, so when we got to Olde Town Conyers, nothing was open, which made for good picture taking opportunities, but we could not go in any of the shops. We pulled in and parked on one of the side streets and the first thing that I laid my eyes on was the Jardin Gris Voodoo Shop.

It was incredible to be able to stand right in front of where they film so many things. The Jardin Gris is not an actual store, I guess they just rent it out for filming.

After walking around and looking at all the cool stores (which we couldn’t go inside), we saw a filming notice on the window of one of the shops. It said that they would be filming for The Originals the day after we left, and setting up the day we leave. My mom and I were pretty bummed that we wouldn’t get to see any filming, but we did keep walking around to see what else we could find.

Most of the shops had balconies with ornate wire railings, that made everything look like Bourbon street.

They use different street names for when they shoot The Originals, but these were not real either, they just looked cool, like something right out of New Orleans.

This building looked a lot like it could have been Rousseau's but I was never quite sure.

They also had some cool little Voodoo shops, not associated with the show, that had all kinds of different things.

This is my favorite image from that whole trip to Olde Town Conyers because it shows you the full view of the street and it really felt like I was standing in a scene in The Originals

I have a bunch more pictures to share with you, but we just walked all over the place taking pictures in Olde Town because it is just a neat little place. We went to all the places that they said the would be filming, and I recognized a few, see if you can too.

First Stop: The Wickery Bridge

After the longest drive of my life, and many wrong turns thanks to Google Maps and Siri, we (my mother and I) finally arrived in Conyers, GA. Once we found the hotel we were staying in (a very nice Courtyard Marriott), we decided to go find the things we wanted to see. We set down our things, and hit the road, again. After a brief drive down some country roads, we crossed the Wickery Bridge, which is actually called Flat Bridge to the locals. My original intention was to take a picture of me laying in the middle of the road just like the vampires of Mystic Falls, however, this road was extremely busy. I was lucky to get a few pictures, where there was a break in the traffic, but cars were flying around the curve at 90 miles an hour, and I wasn't going to take a chance at being roadkill.

We found a small area in the woods to park the car in, so we could get out and get some good shots. We got some great views of the full bridge but we wanted some shots from on the bridge. To be out of the flow of traffic, my mother and I both climbed along the narrow sidewall of the bridge to make it to the other side. Meanwhile, I am making jokes about how people are always driving off the bridge and that I hope we aren’t in their way.
